Apple’s Matrix-Style App Wall Reloaded

Apple’s Matrix-Style App Wall Reloaded: "
A year ago, I did a post highlighting Apple’s awesome-looking App Wall. The wall was a series of Apple monitors set up to show the App Store in a Matrix-like way. Arranged by color, each time an app was purchased, it would pulse. Of course, there were “only” 50,000 apps at the time, and Apple still couldn’t show them all on the display. Now there are over 225,000 apps, so Apple had to switch things up this year.

As you can see in the pictures and video blow, the new App Wall is perhaps even a little prettier than last year’s model. It shows the top 50,000 apps in the App Store across 30 24-inch LED Cinema Displays. As each app is downloaded it falls into a stack (still color-coordinated) across the displays. Once the display hits 10,800 apps, it resets and starts over with app downloads.

Check out the video below, and pictures below that.

By The Numbers: The iPhone 4 vs EVO 4G

By The Numbers: The iPhone 4 vs EVO 4G: "
The Android vs iPhone fight is officially on. The EVO 4G fired the first shot last Friday when it launched nationwide on Sprint. The Android nation rallied behind the 4G super phone, which finally gave the Android nation a reason to be proud of their mobile platform of choice. They loudly pointed out all the EVO 4G’s iPhone-killing specs: huge 4.3-inch screen, 4G hotspot mode, dual cameras, and cheap mobile plans.

But the new iPhone is finally official after months of leaks and it’s ready to fight although it’s not exactly fair. The fourth generation iPhone isn’t just going up against one phone. Nope, the EVO 4G is just Android’s flavor of the month. A more powerful and sexy Android handset will likely steal its attention by the end of the summer and the iPhone 4 will have to stand against with that model as well.

Here we are anyway, though. It’s time to let the two hottest phones on the planet stand toe-to-toe on specs and capabilities. Forget the user experience and all that nonsense. This is about screen resolution, network access, megapixels and all the fun stuff that forum users will be spouting-off for months.

Everything You Need To Know About The iPhone 4

Everything You Need To Know About The iPhone 4: "

As expected, the iPhone 4 was announced today during Steve Jobs’ keynote at WWDC. Its flagship features are, of course, the extremely high resolution screen, video chat capability with FaceTime, and the sexy new form factor. But there’s more to the 4 than that, and even those seemingly self-explanatory new features deserve a closer look. Let’s see just what Apple’s done here with its biggest update to the iPhone since the original.

Installing Android on the iPhone - The Complete Guide

Installing Android on the iPhone - The Complete Guide: "
Installing Android on the iPhone - Do you feel jealous of your Android-using friends? Are you sick and tired of your iPhone's locked up OS? Are you fearless enough to install Android on the iPhone? If you answered yes to any of the questions above, perhaps it's about time to install Android on your iPhone.

David Wong (aka Planetbeing), the one who ported the Android Operating System on the iPhone, has written a complete guide on installing Android on the iPhone 2G and 3G models. Although the step-by-step tutorial is very detailed and straightforward, you should take into consideration that the hack may temporarily brick your iPhone if not done properly. So it is not for the faint of heart.

As noted by Planetbeing, the hack is still a work in progress. 'Although this port does everything that you expect your smartphone to be able to do, it isn't usable for day-to-day activities just yet', he said. Power-management functions are still not implemented that a fully charged iPhone running Android will only last for about an hour. There are also bugs and performance issues that have yet to be solved.

Some of the prerequisites of installing Android on iPhone:

* Jailbroken iPhone 2G (first-generation) or iPhone 3G with firmware versions between 2.0 and 3.1.2. The hack will not work on iPhone 3GS, iPod Touch, and the iPad.
* A 32-bit Linux system
* Firmware for the Marvell WLAN
* iPhone prebuilt images and binaries

So how do you install Android on the iPhone? Read this carefully.

Hacks to Make Firefox Faster than Google Chrome

Hacks to Make Firefox Faster than Google Chrome: "
Hacks to Make Firefox Faster than Google Chrome: Google Chrome has now eclipsed Mozilla Firefox in the speed category. However, I still use Firefox as my main web browser because it is still better than Chrome in certain areas.

But just recently, I tried a few tweaks that significantly improved the speed of Firefox making it a little bit snappier than the latest version of Google Chrome when loading webpages.

Here are some of the things that I did that helps make Firefox somewhat faster than Chrome:

1. Type about:config into the Firefox URL/address bar and hit ENTER. You will be warned that you might void your warranty if you change some advanced settings, but just go on and trust me :-)

2. Inside the Firefox configuration page, scroll down and look for the following entries:

network.http.pipelining
network.http.proxy.pipelining

Set their values to “true” by double-clicking each one of them.

3. Next up, find this entry:

network.http.pipelining.maxrequests

Double-click and set the value to 8.

4. Right-click anywhere inside the config page and select New --> Integer. Name it nglayout.initialpaint.delay and set the value to “0″.

5. Right-click anywhere inside the config page and select New --> Integer. Name it content.notify.interval and set the value to “500000″.

6. Right-click anywhere inside the config page and select New --> Boolean. Name it content.notify.ontimer and set the value to “true″.

7. Right-click anywhere inside the config page and select New --> Integer. Name it content.switch.threshold and set the value to “250000″.

8. Right-click anywhere inside the config page and select New --> Boolean. Name it content.interrupt.parsing and set the value to “false″.

That's about it. You should be able to notice the speed improvement immediately after applying the above tweaks.

Disabling Firefox addons that you don't use often, blocking flash content, and using a lightweight theme will also help speed up Firefox.
